Roxy
Roxy
Hi there! My name is Roxy and I am looking for a new place to call home. Last year I was a young pup on an adventure out by Pendroy when I got lost and couldn't find my people. Luckily for me, a nice family found me and decided to take me in and raise me as their own. I enjoyed my time there, but found that I wasn't particularly fond of their older dog. You see, I really like being the center of attention. Sadly, this meant that I couldn't stay there any longer, so I was brought to Bright Eyes for a second chance at finding a forever home! I am a very energetic gal, and I absolutely love to run! So much so that when I'm walking on leash, I end up running in circles around my handler because I am just so excited to be out and about! Don't worry, I am working on this and really do enjoy walking next to my person once I calm down. Even though I have a lot of energy, I still find some things a little scary, and shy away from unknown objects until I learn that they are okay (hats being one of those objects, in case you were curious). I am housebroken, although I may piddle out of excitement sometimes. I am starting to work on my basic commands, and I am a fast learner (especially when love and treats are involved)! I am unsure of other dogs here at the shelter, so I don't know 100% whether I would want to live with another dog in a new home. I will keep you updated on that one! I absolutely despise cats, though, and I definitely do not want to share my space with them. According to my temporary family, I am quite loving toward children, but since being at the shelter I haven't spent much time around them. To recap, I am a young, energetic lass looking for a cat-free home (potentially with another doggy friend), where I can run, play, and be by my people! If this sounds like something you would also enjoy, please come down and meet me! I promise I will not let you down!

I am a medium adult female. I was named Liza, after Minnelli, with long legs and attitude. I was abandoned as a young girl, and taken into the arms of another and kenneled. Trained to hunt mountain lions, but living in small quarters was frustrating for me. I would bay and bay, and try anything to escape the small area I was given. I lived with children and loved them, but I became too much for town life and changing lifestyles. At the shelter, I have an acre to run in but have not made any doggie friends yet. Like them through the fence, but anxious to pounce on them on introduction. We are working on my manners for that as we speak. I love to stretch out and run, but have little eye contact with people....I am leaning that too, with yummy treats. I have an understanding of what quiet means and when I'm inside, have decided that it is good to rest my vocal cords for a full moon night when I really to speak out. I'm actually a blue tick/walker hound mix and have the energy and drive that both breeds have. I like to hike and will most likely be the one pulling you up the hill when you need help. You can count on me.

When I was adopted as a puppy, I promised that I would be a good girl. That happened, but then I had this instinct take over me that also said I should be in charge of the family. By acting this way, I appeared to be overbearing and controlling, my way or the highway. This situation became unpleasant for my loving family and we were really no longer totally happy and carefree. Sometimes the flipping of dominance just doesn't happen, so my family decided that the best thing for me would be a second chance with someone who offered a fresh start. Do-overs I think. I still am a very good girl, but I do need an owner who is awesomely dominant over me, kindly keeping me in my place. I need lots of exercise, mind challenges, am good in a dog park, no rawhides, and would like a doggie partner. I should also let you know that I do get car sick if I eat before a long ride. Bummer. Bring on the ginger snaps, right?
